Media/Images and formatting.[edit]

I've gone ahead and removed several of the image files. They could possibly be reintegrated later, but as of now they were longer than the article itself and distracting. I've also made the first picture be the same as the Women's March article as that is currently the most notable of the protests in terms of media coverage and size. I also agree with Garagepunk66 that the article could use a better graphical organization of the protests in line with the article's name. TonyBallioni (talk) 19:25, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I think it makes sense for this page to be merged and redirected to Protests against Donald Trump at this time. I came across it while doing NPP and thought it was a notable topic, but didn't realize that the protests against Trump page already existed. It is already a timeline, which this page is not despite the title, and has much more information than this one. Any material that exists here that can be included in the other Trump article can be merged, and this redirect to that. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:42, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So I think the thing is that, the main article is *huge*, and it's a mix of prose and dates, etc. It must be split up (150k bytes is way too much by Wikipedia's guidelines). I think that this article is one possible offshoot from the main article; namely, the goal of this article should be something like a table of events, with no images (the other article can keep the images), and way less prose. "List" of protests would also work. But yeah, also, this timeline is about protests during his presidency, which surely can't be contained in the main article (no space there). Actually, this article doesn't even need to avoid using prose; it simply covers a different time period than the other article (which should just cover pre presidency).
  • Keep and develop What the article is currently is a poor representation of what is needed. Protests against Donald Trump is getting overwhelmed and as a contributor to that, I keep catching the heat. I have long said we need a timeline article and supporting sidebars. I think we need to break this sequence of protests into logical chunks. Some ideas; pre-declaration of candidacy, candidacy, post election and inauguration (and the weekend following it). We don't know what the future protests will be like, but over four more years we can certainly expect some more. This is the name of the article where the sequence of those events can be tracked. The more generalized prose belongs on Protests against Donald Trump and more detailed articles for the particular timeframes and possibly when merited, individual protests, leaders and phenomenon. If we can break the other article's section involving post-election presidency off and move it into here in a timeline format, I could support that. The Protests article looked very timeliney to me, which is why I suggested moving it there, but separating it into prose and timeline section is fine to me. I've just merged the pre-election protests section which was all in very short point and very suitable for this page. However there is very little content left on the other article, and I would appreciate someone writing a summary of 2015 and 2016 years protests. When it comes to the post-election protests I suggest we move most of the information into this article apart from the Nov 9-12th protests which seem to be notable in their own right.   • Merge: There will be many more protests so a timeline of all of them would be ideal. Trump just started his mandate and may well the president for the next 8 years which means there will surely be many more protests. Besides, many of his decisions are controversial and are bound to start protests. I believe merging and keeping a timeline would be the best option with emphasis on the protests that involve more people or resonate more than others.   • Keep and develop: Suggesting that this page should be merged with a list page is like saying that the page on World War II should be merged with Timeline of World War II. This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because this article already has a merger discussion. I commented above why it should be kept. Deleting it through any speedy action is inappropriate and serves to WP:SALT its future usage as a necessary sidebar to the Protests against Donald Trump series I described. Vote to keep Timeline article[edit]

Events on this page have global significance with a wide following. Excess or repetitive content can be summarized or removed overt time while keeping the most important references. pro trump rallies[edit]

I think it would be a nice touch to reference any rallies for trump, although it should be noted that people usually dont rally in support of a candidate, except during an election. still, there havent been many, NYC demonstrators rally in support of Trump, World’s Saddest Trump Rally Draws Just 8 Supporters, Jersey Shore 'deplorables' show love for Trump, Several rally for Trump in Elkins, most very small.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 01:52, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
