Merge? Are regional sub-articles warranted?[edit]

While having regional breakdowns of the main Timeline of the gunpowder age article can be useful, there are a few concerns:

  • each subarticle only consists of a few items each, combined with a fully duplicated reference list (i.e. an WP:OVERLAP concern)
  • there is a maintenance burden and risk of getting the articles out of sync - i.e. any changes to a sub-article would need to propagated to the main article, and vice-versa

It may be better to work on the main article for now, but will consider any consensus that indicates the overlap and maintenance risks can be kept under control. Dl2000 (talk) 05:30, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merging is fine; the only question is how? Can I suggest that an additional column for Region be added at the far end of the tables. I'm also not sure that the current formatting with multiple table is helpful. One large table which could then be switched to a sortable table might be more helpful for readers, as that would then also allow sorting by region (to maintain, in essence, regional lists within the table, as well as a chronological list). After looking at the items in the article it seems like there's mostly selected rows from the larger list. I think it would be fine just incorporating the items that are not part of the main article into the current list without additional subdivisions since those sections would be mostly overlap with the main list.
