Looks like Creasey left Ulster on 8th January 1980 from the Gazette entry [1] Kernel Saunters (talk) 16:25, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CAIN concurs on 1/12/79, and the Times obituary just says "1979". I'd be tempted to say 1st December and note in a footnote that the Gazette date was different - there may be some subtlety here that'll emerge in time. Shimgray | talk | 12:56, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect CAIN follows the Bew reference just added for this - it's listed as a source. It just seems to be wrong, the Gazette is the definitve reference for Army appointments, so i think we sould go with that. I've checked the Times archive as well - the appointment seems to have been announced in November, but there's no mention of a handover in December, the first mention is their reprint of the gazette info in January 1980. Without seeing this discussion, I'd alreday changed the date in Lawson's article. David Underdown (talk) 16:52, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
