dump from bert bell article[edit]

this does not fit in grammitically in the Bert Bell article, put here for safekeeping: In 1922, the death of his friend, [[Tiny Maxwell]], led him to help establish a fund to erect a memorial to him.<ref>{{cite news | author = [[Grantland Rice]] | title = The Sportlight | date = 1922-09-07 | url = http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030214/1922-09-07/ed-1/seq-10/;words=Bert+Bell?date1=1920&rows=20&searchType=basic&state=&date2=1922&proxtext=bert+bell&y=0&x=0&dateFilterType=yearRange&index=14 | work = New-York Tribune | page = 10}}; cf. Quarterback?[edit]

Parke H. Davis has him on a roster as a quarterback. He's usually pretty good with sources. Typo or did they try out the massive qb? Cake (talk) 18:44, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • From all of the references I've seen on him, I have yet to hear about him playing QB. That's not to say that he wasn't thrown into a game for a play or two at the position. His playing career was in the era prior to the forward pass and poor record keeping, so it's entirely possible that a coach may have used him routinely like Mike Ditka used the The Fridge in the mid 1980's. But I have yet to see any evidence of it. --Pennsylvania Penguin (talk) 13:37, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
