Chunk removal

A large chunk of text were removed from the "history" section. It was done by 12.173.168.199 (discussion, contributions) (diff). It was not commented or summarized. It seems that no edits by this user are. Here the chunk goes:

A share of TOAD fans and end-users expressed concerns with Quest's recent move to version 8 of the product. These users expressed beliefs that Delphi-based version 7.X was the last "genuine" and easy-to-use revision of TOAD. There have been calls to release the Delphi product strand into [[open source]], though that seems unlikely due to Quest's proprietary rights.

OK, here's my response. Toad is STILL Delphi-based. Toad is a commercial product. Calls to have it released as 'open source' are economically based, not user experience ones. Toad has an extremely large and loyal Yahoo community that strives to keep the product as friendly and easy to use today as it was 6 years ago. --Jeff Smith, Toad Expert, Quest Software, 12.173.168.199 21:18, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

This article is neither hosted nor owned by the Quest software, hence it cannot be used to promote the product or express the opinion of the company, right? The end-user concern about v8 vs v7 is pretty wide, as in our company, for instance, which is one of the top US financial institutions, v8 is not even used anymore, as everyone rolled back to v7.3 and v7.4 in mass order. Whoever published the para at first place might have seen the same. I think it's an important piece of information about the tool for those who plan to use it for the first time. Some kind of knowledge base, which seems to come in conflict with Quests' corporate interests unfortunately.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.57.62.23 (talk • contribs)

If the end-user concern is 'pretty wide', find a reference to back it up. This article must be based on verifiable facts. That means they must be true and there must be evidence to support them. And for what it's worth, I have no connection to Quest, and have no reason to promote either Quest Software or TOAD. I am a user of TOAD and I too had a lot of problems with the early 8.x versions, although I put this down to bugs rather than a change of development tool (apparently it's still Delphi-based). Version 9 has been out for a while and I haven't had any problems with it (other than the price). Perhaps you should give the latest release a try. --Michig 09:01, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Move to Toad (software)

Shouldn't this page be moved to Toad (software)? From what I can tell, it is never written in all-caps (although I assume it once was). 202.183.100.57 01:07, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Toad was originally in all capital letters, as it was an acronym for "Tool for Oracle Application Developers". A majority of users still refer to it as TOAD.

TOra

Let's clear this up right now - TOra *is* copyright Quest Software, and hence is not an independent product - see the TOra Sourceforge page. It doesn't matter how often people have 'indicated' that Quest have nothing to do with it.--Michig 09:24, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Name "TOra" is owned by Quest as Quest acquired "GlobeCom A" who owned the name. However the code is under GPL and hasn't seen anybody from Quest for at least 5 years (while being actively maintained by the community) so it is no longer correct to state that Quest maintains TOra (or supports it in ANY way). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.197.167.142 (talk) 13:45, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Controversy re. Delphi versions

Someone removed the fact tags form this section. As far as I can see it's just soapboxing and if you read the comments above, it was wrong anyway. Please don't add it back in unless you have references to back it up.--Michig 09:24, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion for Additional Section under such topics

It would be useful to include competing FREEWARE and professional tools, to benefit the non expert users who are trying to figure out what other applications can be used to achieve same functionality. bshengan

TOAD or Toad?

TOAD was originally an acronym, but is now a registered brand name. So is it now Toad instead of TOAD? What should the article call it for consistency? — Loadmaster (talk) 16:16, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
