Tony Bova was born Anthony J. Bova in 1917 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Kiski High School and was a 1943 graduate of Saint Francis University, Loretto, Pennsylvania.[1]. 
He was 6'1" and weighted 190 pounds when he played for the National Football League's Pittsburgh Steelers He played end, halfback, and quarterback during his career from 1942 to 1947. [2]. In 1942 he also played left end on defense and in 1947 scored a safety.[3] The 1943 Steelers mergered with the Philadelphia Eagles and was known as the Phil-Pitt "Steagles". In 1944 the Steelers mergered with the Chicago Cardinals and were known as the Card-Pitt. In 1943 Bova lead the Steagles with 419 receiving yards of the teams 1138 total and averaged a NFL league leading 24.6 yards per catch.[4] In 1942 he wore numbers 31 and 41 and in 1943 number 85.[5]

World War II service[edit]

Although Bova served in the United States Navy during World War II, no reliable sources found as of yet state that he served overseas in a war zone during the war. More specifically, the sources do not establish defining role in World War II. Accordingly, Category:American military personnel of World War II was removed from the article. Semper Fi!
