1973 Bogota Open/Los Lagartos Open[edit]

See: Los Lagartos Open where we have Jacklin winning in 1973. https://www.pgatour.com/players/player.06306.tony-jacklin.html says under "INTERNATIONAL VICTORIES" 1973 Bogota Open [Col], 1973 Los Lagartos Open but I'm of the view that they are the same event. https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=NOE9AAAAIBAJ&sjid=SUgMAAAAIBAJ&pg=6496%2C5543921 refers to the Bogota open tournament while http://www.nga-earlygolf.nl/golfarchief/files/original/c81ed08013242468a0472f377740234c.pdf (a contemporary source in Dutch) says "Hij won het Bogota Open met een score van 261" (which even I can translate). British newspapers have things like "Tony Jacklin sank five birdies and an eagle for a seven-under-par 65 in the international golf tournament at Los Lagartos Golf Club, Bogota yesterday. Jacklin, playing the Caribbean circuit. was one stroke in front of ...". I can't find any other event that Jacklin played in and so I'm assuming that they are the same event and have removed the Bogota Open one. Nigej (talk) 10:47, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Book[edit]

I’m the co-author with Tony of a new book. Tony himself is keen to add to the contents of his wiki page and I’ve made several edits on his behalf. However, it seems they have been discarded. How can we discuss having them put back in? Sportshippo (talk) 11:50, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, it isn't Tony's wiki page. It is an article on Wikipedia, about Tony Jackson, and accordingly he doesn't get to decide what goes on it. And nor does someone editing 'on his behalf'. And, as in this case, on their own behalf as well, as someone with a clear conflict of interest. If the book merits mention in the article, it will be because it can be shown to be of benefit to readers of our article to do so. And I'm far convinced that the mere fact that a ghost-written autobiography concerning Jackson has been published is sufficient grounds to include it. Has the book been reviewed by mainstream media? What do they have to say about it? Articles aren't there to provide free advertising space... AndyTheGrump (talk) 12:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
SportsHippo You added unreferenced paragraphs and the information on the book you co-authored. All reverted. Per clear conflict of interest (WP:COI), you should not edit the article directly. Instead, propose specific changes on the Talk page, so that a not-connected editor can decide to implement or not. David notMD (talk) 12:58, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The book seems to be Jimenez, Tony; Jacklin, Tony (26 August 2021). Tony Jacklin: My Ryder Cup Journey. Pegasus Elliot Mackenzie Publishers. ISBN 9781910903636.. I'll leave it to others interested in this article to decide whether it should be included in a bibliography, or even as a source for some WP:ABOUTSELF facts.
