Non-NTM Franchise Shows[edit]

Considering that this is a list of NTM shows only, Get Gorgeous (India), The Model Agent (Ireland) and Malaysian Dreamgirl (Malaysia) should be removed. As far as I know, the rest of the shows are part of the NTM franchise. However, should the three shows I listed be removed? Sireafi (talk) 06:10, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SUPERMODELME.tv is not part of the franchise either. Sireafi (talk) 04:30, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Get Gorgeous is a reality made by Channel V in India and Southeast Asia, totally different from ANTM. 113.22.189.205 (talk) 13:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Serbian version?[edit]

Can anyone prove that Top Model by NJ Models (the Serbian version) is part of the franchise? It looked extremely low-budget to be quite frank, although that's not grounds for not being a part of the franchise. Sireafi (talk) 04:30, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

it is not the serbian version. this show is set in Republika Srpska which is in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Shameless (talk) 03:00, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Top Model series is more descriptive of the contents of the article. Top Model is quite ambiguous. I see no reason to tie-up the spot (address) Top Model with the series article, even if there is currently no competition for the spot. Articles linked to Top Model series should stay that way. --Bejnar (talk) 21:00, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not ambiguous. This is the only thing called "top model". Unreal7 (talk) 22:38, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, too many TV articles on en.wp are titled with the assumption that everyone watches TV, without "series" I could guess it was a TV series, but having "series" makes it a lot easier, "Top Model TV series" or "Top Model franchise" would be even better since, if we go by print sources, this is a category:Media franchises in TV format not a TV series. There is also apparently an unrelated and older Top Model (magazine) that gets 28x GB hits, but that's by the by. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:45, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If that was the case then Got Talent, Popstars and The Office would all have "series" at the end of their title. Unreal7 (talk) 19:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above. Not as descriptive, echo the comments of Bejnar. Theopolisme 23:48, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The proposed title is concise, unambiguous, and consistent with usage in reliable sources, perfect per WP:AT. It's hard to read IIO's argument as anything but a call for unnecessary disambiguation or forced qualifiers for TV series. --BDD (talk) 19:21, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Flags[edit]

In this table, some editors add flags for winners of nationality or heritage foreign to the countries of the competitions they won. However, according to the Wikipedia Manual of Style, not all of these are appropriate for Wikipedia articles.

There are a number of guidelines in the Wikipedia Manual of Style that talk about flags, such as WP:MOSFLAG and WP:WORDPRECEDENCE. As it says in the latter of these, Flag icons may be relevant in some subject areas, where the subject actually represents that country, government, or nationality. So these flags are appropriate for use for winners of competitions such as Africa's Next Top Model, where contestants represent their countries. For competitions in which contestants do not represent their countries—it's simply where they came from, or they are descended from that country—it is not appropriate to use the flags. Linguist111 (talk) 14:37, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, in no way does an individual participating in a reality show pass the criteria where the subject actually represents that country, government, or nationality, this would only apply to officially sanctioned representation, so use of flags would fail MOS:FLAG even in the case mentioned above. There are many other reasons at the guideline not to use flags in these cases. --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:01, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You don't appear to be familiar with Asia's Next Top Model. As I said before, it is not a televison show per se. It is a real modelling competition where contestants represent their countries. I don't see how, in these articles, the use of these flags fails MOS:FLAG. Linguist Moi? Moi. 19:05, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
They're not representing their countries in any official capacity. They're representing themselves. --Rob Sinden (talk) 09:01, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In tennis championships, contestants don't compete in teams based on their countries, they compete individually. Essentially they represent themselves. And still flags are used there. Nothing gained, information lost through removal of flags here. Linguist Moi? Moi. 11:39, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We're not discussing whether it is appropriate for tennis articles to use flags, we're discussing whether it's appropriate to use them for contestants in a TV reality show. There's a massive difference between the two. --Rob Sinden (talk) 12:23, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In tennis, a player is registered with a national federation, itself a member of the International Tennis Federation, which is what the flags represent, even though they play individually. This tennis nationality determines which country they represent in international competition, such as the Davis Cup and Fed Cup. It's not the same as this show at all. oknazevad (talk) 17:18, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List of international versions[edit]

In the first episode of cycle 9 of Australia's Next Top Model, Tyra Banks, paying tribute to Charlotte Dawson, said, "...we've had 36 international versions made all around the world...". The list of international versions contains more than 36. I'm not completely sure which ones are and which ones are not licensed Top Model versions.

These are confirmed to be licensed:

These I think are probably licensed, or could well be, but I'm not 100% certain they are, or haven't checked:

These ones I'm not sure about, and may not be licensed:

Linguist Moi? Moi. 18:47, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

These are licensed:
Credits and rights after the show ends confirm this. Always something along the lines of "based on America's Next Top Model, produced in the United States by 10x10 entertainment distributed by CBS studios international." and a CBS logo that's universal to a lot (but not all) versions. Low budget/deviation from normal format doesn't immediately equal knock-off. The rest may be similar to top model, and not licensed. With the early versions and low-brows (concentrating mainly in Eastern Europe) it's almost impossible to tell since they aired so long ago and there's hardly any references for those. With the ones I mentioned, there's 37 when combined with your first list. I wouldn't count Mongolia among the 36, because A) it hasn't been produced, just proposed & B) It was proposed long after the airing of cycle 9 Trafalk09 (talk) 20:21, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Trafalk09: Thank you. I have found no reliable sources that link ANTM with Supermodel (Switzerland) or Supermodel po-ukrainsky (Ukraine), so I think we can safely strike them. So that leaves us with the following:

  • Topmodell (Hungary)
  • Srpski Top Model (Serbia)
  • Slovenski Top Model (Slovenia)
  • HaDugmaniot (Israel)
  • Hľadá sa Supermodelka (Slovakia)
Not licensed:
  • Supermodel (Switzerland)
  • Supermodel po-ukrainsky (Ukraine)

Please add "Adria's Top Model by Angel.Tatjana" at "Serbia" [1]. It's a licensed version and it's beeing broadcast on RTV Pink, in Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro. The contestants are also from the ex YU region. The host is Tatjana Bašević, an former Miss Svitzerland contestant. --217.248.186.132 (talk) 18:58, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Exclusion of names in top model tables[edit]

@Linguist111: I was wondering if it is really necessary to remove the names of contestants who were not present for judging for certain circumstances? There was some discussion a couple of years back that certain contestants names were not actually "called" and thus needed to be removed. Because their inclusion could be classified as original research I didn't wish to get into an argument with the user then, but always believed that removing the names under a technicality was splitting hairs, for lack of a better term.

It is the reason why I've been renaming the tables under the more appropriate label of "results" which reflects an overall summary of each cycle, as well as each contestants final placements and outcomes in the competition. Recently, several of the names have been removed, including those from the newly renamed result tables. On a personal level, I feel like the change is confusing, whereas the tables as they were before were not overly complicated. Trafalk09 (talk) 22:59, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you disagree with deleting the person who quit, got disqualified, or got eliminated outside of the judging panel, then why when someone adds it back, are you deleting it. You're literally just contradicting yourself right now. It makes no sense to just all of a sudden forget about the people who weren't called in panel and just delete them from he table. It doesn't look good with no one there when there should be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:B09A:4C90:4DF4:7A06:6F4B:442 (talk) 13:36, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think you've got your usernames confused, first and foremost. I've not reverted anyone who has added names back onto tables. I agree that the empty slots are very off-putting and unnecessarily confusing. The reasoning of "not actually being called" is a rather weak argument in my opinion.
