Hi @Reywas92: I'm often on board with deleting articles, but I'm a bit on the fence about this one, tending towards keep.

I believe that Toquop Energy Project is notable because there is secondary coverage in the NY Times and the LV Review-Journal. Searching newspapers.com for "Toquop Energy Project" yields 87 hits, though most of the coverage is from a local Utah paper. Initially, this plant was to be a coal-fired, similar to the Gerlach Coal Plant that was cancelled in 2006. At the time the cancellation of proposed Nevada coal plants was a news-worthy item.

In particular, this project is notable because it went from a coal-fired plant to natural gas to a solar project to being cancelled. In light of recent push back on green energy projects in Nevada such as Thacker Pass Lithium Mine, Jersey Valley and the Gerlach Geothermal Project, it seems like having this page is worth while. I look at a cancelled energy project to be similar to a ghost town. Just because there is nothing there now, at one time there was quite a bit of activity surrounding this project. For example, Concentrated solar power has a few plants that have been cancelled because solar cells became more cost effective than CSP - it is important to document this sea change.

I agree that this article is border-line notable, but unlike a lot of corporate press release articles and self-written self-flattering bios, this article is about how a project did not work out. It is not a press release for the corporations involved.

I added more coverage from non-primary news sources. It is not clear what the status of the fossil fuel version of the plant is today. It seems mothballed to me. I also added some text about the other three Nevada coal power plants from around that time that were postponed or delayed. Are the additions sufficient for you to remove the PROD tag?

I should probably write an article about the Granite Fox Power Project near Gerlach. In the end what happened was that a 2006 bill signed by Gov. Schwarzenegger [1] put the kibosh on Granite Fox [2].

Ely Energy Center and White Pine Energy Station seem to have a lot of duplicated text. I suppose we could create an article about postponed or on hold Nevada coal power plants that would include Ely, White Pine, Toquop and Granite Fox, but I'm not sure I have the interest or time.Cxbrx (talk) 05:37, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
