Renaming: Outbreak + derecho?[edit]

I'm on vacation so I am lsess able to keep track, but the rule of one system - one article would mean the derecho (primarily in Kansas City) should be part of this in its own section. Also the High Plains blizzard should have a section as well. CrazyC83 (talk) 19:44, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's looking now like at least some of the damage in K.C. may have been caused by tornadoes embedded in the derecho. FWIW. Gopher backer (talk) 19:46, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently according to WMBC, two strong tornadoes are confirmed including an EF2 in Gladstone and an EF3 in Brookridge. Is Brookridge part of Kansas City proper and on the Missouri side? The Kansas City, MS article seems to indicate this, although not sure if it is inside Jackson County. Obviously, with the kind of damage I've seen here and from live coverage on WMBC.com it looks obviously it was strong tornadoes. --JForget 23:14, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Brookridge is a community at the northeast fringe of Kansas City. Gladstone is a separate suburb. CrazyC83 (talk) 00:25, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The NWS indicates it was northwest of Liberty east of Gladstone. Finally it looks more clear, looks like inside KC proper it is straight-line winds except those brief EF0s while outside the city it was clearly tornadoes.--JForget 15:50, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In affected area[edit]

We had tornadoes hit in Texas and in Arkansas, and this is still going on. Fatalities have been reported. See FOX News, CNN, other news have reported this, extensive damage. See also www.weather.com for more on this matter. Sirens in Douglas County, Kansas[edit]

There's currently a bit of controversy (see here, for example) concerning the decision by Douglas County, Kansas emergency personnel not to sound tornado sirens when NWS issued a tornado warning for the area (NWS confirmed a tornado had touched down after inspecting the area the next day). Might not be worth mentioning at the moment, but could potentially develop into a notable story related to the outbreak. Ubernostrum (talk) 22:03, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguating[edit]

Since more outbreaks are likely in the next couple days, the date may have to be inserted in (May 1-2) the title, to disambiguate from the last event (which does not warrant an article) and this weekend's event (which might depending on forecast).
