Cleanup[edit]

This article needs to be , at the very least, organised. In addition, there needs to be more information that is not UK-centric. --Kmsiever 16:30, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its been over three years since the above was posted. While the organization of the article has improved, a discussion of town centers in the United States and Canada is needed. There is no mention anywhere of town centers outside of Europe here. Maybe this article could use one of those boxes at the top of the page that says something like "This article does not incorporate a global view". I'll try to add that.Bert The Turtle (talk) 07:50, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tried to reorganise it into sections. Removed slightly bizarre statement that town centres only exist in UK, Ireland , Hong Kong and mainland Europe! Sionk (talk) 00:40, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fatal exception of type MWException[edit]

As of this version of the article, you can find

<!-- <ref>{{cite web | title= Planning Policy Statement 6 - Planning for Town Centres | url= http://www.communities.gov.uk/pub/821/PlanningPolicyStatement6PlanningforTownCentres_id1143821.pdf | archiveurl= http://web.archive.org/web/20070205202237/http://www.communities.gov.uk/pub/821/PlanningPolicyStatement6PlanningforTownCentres_id1143821.pdf | archivedate=2007-02-05 | year=2005 |accessdate=2012-12-25}}</ref> -->

as a second reference in the article. The commented-out code above was an attempt to use archiveurl/archivedate as a workaround to an existing {{dead link}}. If I remove the comment brackets, I get an error page back, with a title of "Internal error" and an red-bordered error box containing something like this:

<div class="errorbox">[176357fd] 2012-12-25 09:33:26: Fatal exception of type MWException</div>

If I look at the web page source, I see the following advice:

Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information.

I did not follow the advice but I am documenting it here in case someone else tries to get the archiveirl to work. 72.244.206.81 (talk) 09:46, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 130#Internal error when using archiveurl in cite web, this error has been resolved, so I have reinstated the commented out ref. – PartTimeGnome (talk | contribs) 16:13, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
