Athlete Residents[edit]

I have deleted the various Tigers and pistons that were added to the Notable Current and Former Residents. Now dont get me wrong, I'm among the biggest fans for each team, but simpily because they have a home here during the season for their limited tenure with the team, I dont think they should be added to the list. The list is meant more to highlight the "hometown-hero" types (except Wuornos, lol), and not big names on a temp basis.

Besides, if you did want to include all current and former athletes that lived in troy at one point or another, the they dont get enough notariety to begin with?

"Major" companies?[edit]

Do we have any sort of reference point for what makes a company "major" and what doesn't? It's beginning to look like this section is a free-for-all. Some of the companies don't even have their own articles, making this look like the beginnings of a directory... which Wikipedia is not. -- Kevin (talk) 20:39, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Companies without articles should be removed from the lists in that case. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:50, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If its significant to the local economy, it should be included.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 00:11, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Michigan City Turns Down Millions of Dollars, Saying Federal Money Is Not Free by John Schwartz published December 22, 2011, example excerpt ...

Michigan’s governor, Rick Snyder, a Republican, said through a spokeswoman that he was “disappointed” in the city’s decision and would be “reviewing our options for utilizing the grant, including the potential transfer of the grant to another applicant.” Mr. Snyder had sent a letter to Mayor (Janice) Daniels before the vote saying that the project would have “significant, positive economic development on your community and the state.”

"A city turns down $8.5 million in federal grant money. In what could be a new high water mark of anti-Washington sentiment, the city of Troy, Mich., is rejecting a long-planned transportation center whose construction would have been fully financed with federal stimulus money. The terminal, which would help Troy become a transportation node on an upgraded Detroit-to-Chicago Amtrak line, was hailed by supporters as a way to create jobs and to spur economic development. But federal money is federal money, so with the urging of the new mayor, who helped found the local Tea Party chapter, the City Council cast a 4-to-3 vote this week against granting a crucial contract, sending the project into limbo."

"Affluent"[edit]

I think it is just an accurate descriptor, and is not WP:Puffing. certainly there must be census data on this particular SMSA which is the context in which Somerset Mall exists. It did put in a citation needed, as some of us apparently think this is controversial. 7&6=thirteen () 19:33, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is summed up in the first two words of your agreement, 7. You think. Affluent (or poor, for that matter) is not a definable term in any real sense. There is no set way to measure it (is it average household income, average individual income, median home price, budget surplus of the city government? ). One of the most common indicators of wealth is entirely lacking, and that fact is cited in the next paragraph. The median home value in Troy is only 79k, below the state average and miles below the Points, the Bloomfields and the Farmingtons. I object to the use of terms like affluent and poor as being too subjective to be encyclopedic but even if you want to skip that, the article as it exists makes a powerful argument against the use of affluent as a description. I don't know that there is an objective standard. I've said my piece. I don't disagree with your dissection of the local area, although you misspelled "Points," While you are at it you could also count in the smallest "city" in Michigan. which most people don't even know exists. (And no, it is not Omer, Michigan which at one time billed itself as such.) I don't feel strongly about this one way or another. 7&6=thirteen () 21:13, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
