Rename article to "Tumbler (...)" ?[edit]

It would seem that the title of this article should be "tumbler" rather than "tumblers", unless it is never used in the singular. However, it should have some qualifier in parentheses to distinguish it from other "tumbler" articles. But what should that qualifier be? "Tumbler (hypertext)", "Tumbler (Project Xanadu)", or something else? Anyone care to speculate? Gwimpey 18:52, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Maybe categorize it similarly to transfinite numbers? More accurately, tumblers could be characterized as transfinitesimal numbers but that term isn't in common use. Jdougan 01:41, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Perhaps Tumbler (Addressing), since tumblers can be used for non-hypertext forms of addressing. I must admit that I initially confused Enfilade and Tumbler (I wrote the Enfilade (Xanadu) page initially, so I may have propogated the confusion), so maybe I should keep my mouth shut. --John Ohno12:49, 9 March 2008 (EST)

Better explanation?[edit]

Would it be useful to cite the analogy used in the FeBe documents that describes tumbler addressing as similar to the Dewy Decimal System? It might be easier for a reader to understand than jumping straight into the term "transfinite", though it would not conflict with the more technical information, nor would it require such expansion as to split off an "introduction" article.

Requested move[edit]

This title, "Tumblers", should not be plural. "Tumbler" is a disambiguation page, so Gwimpeys first suggestion is put forward. – Leo Laursen –   17:23, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Purple Numbers" link[edit]

The page "Purple Numbers" links to seems to have been deleted and linked to Douglas Englebert's page. Douglas Englebert's page doesn't mention purple numbers. This should probably be replaced by a descriptive paragraph (eg under something like related concepts), or the purple numbers page should be resurrected. -- Resuna (talk) 12:10, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
