circular definition[edit]

Talk about a circular definition: "Twenty-eight mansions (Chinese: 二十八宿; Hanyu Pinyin: Èr Shí Bā Xiù) are 28 mansions in Chinese astronomy." Twenty-eight mansions are twenty-eight mansions... Image[edit]

I think the image should be reverse(top-below) according to Chinese tradition. see Bagua.--Keyi 00:44, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the image shows the "white tiger" on the right, which contradicts the description and runs counter to convention of placing the West on the right. Matttoothman (talk) 20:37, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Doubt about order, or: why Spring -> Winter -> Fall -> Summer ?[edit]

Why "Spring -> Winter -> Fall -> Summer" and not "Spring -> Summer -> Fall -> Winter" ? I think this order (of Seasons / Directions / Elements / Four Symbols) is inconsistent with chinese philosophy.

Thus not:

Azure Dragon of the East (東方青龍) - Spring - Element: Wood
~~Black Tortoise of the North (北方玄武) - Winter - Element: Water~~
White Tiger of the West (西方白虎) - Autumn - Element: Metal
~~Vermilion Bird of the South (南方朱雀) - Summer - Element: Fire~~

but:

Azure Dragon of the East (東方青龍) - Spring - Element: Wood
Vermilion Bird of the South (南方朱雀) - Summer - Element: Fire
White Tiger of the West (西方白虎) - Autumn - Element: Metal
Black Tortoise of the North (北方玄武) - Winter - Element: Water

Seasons: Spring -> Summer -> Fall -> Winter
Directions of the sun: East -> South -> West -> North
Elements: Wood -> Fire -> [Earth] -> Metal -> Water
