Shamrock[edit]

I saw that UFC on DVD and it appeared to me that Shamrock hurt his ankle during the semi-final match. Unless someone can source that statement that he refused to fight I'm going to remove it because it's just myth unless there's something to verify it. On the DVD the commentator says 'shamrock cannot go' and I think that statement would take precedent over an unsourced one.

The official announcement by commentators (if I recall correctly) was "Shamrock cannot continue due to injury". I have never heard anything about Shammy not fighting out of pride or whatever...

When I recently re watched UFC 3, it also appeared that Gracie hurt his ankle fighting Kimo, as he was hobbling around the octagon after the fight, and could not walk on one of his legs. In the article it says "fatigue", and that Gracie was diagnosed as hypoglycemic - both of which I had never heard. The Royce Gracie article says he was "severly dehydreated". ??? Official info beyond Sherdog stats is hard to find on these old events, so I'm just leaving it as "fatigue", and the Shamrock withdrawl as "injury". for now. I just watched the whole UFC 3 yesterday and the commentator said "Shamrock cannot go" although how he got the ankle injury is a bit of a mystery. I suppose he could have been faking it but it seems unlikely that someone would give up a chance at $60 000 and the chance to be the champion because he wouldn't be fighting Gracie.

Come to think of it Shamrock was limping after his semi-final before Gracie fought his semi-final so at that point he couldn't have known Gracie would retire injured.

As for Yarborough, the graphic listed him at 616lb and the announcer at 618lb. I noticed this happened a lot during the first few UFCs that the graphic and the commentator wouldn't agree. In the case for 616lb versus 618lb, it doesn't exactly matter. Mglovesfun 01:58, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

inconsistant stories about UFC3[edit]

The participants have told many conflicting stories about what happened at UFC3.

Gracie has made a number of different claims over the years as to why he threw in the towel. Its been claimed that he was injured, that he was suffering from fatigue and in more recent years its been claimed that he was temporarily blind and/or suffering from hypoglycemic shock.

Same with Ken Shamrock. He was announced as injured during the fight. But different stories tell of him being injured in different ways. His more recent story is that he withdrew from the finals because Gracie left.
