Only Black/Ethnic deaths on this list[edit]

This is because a readily availible list is availible from the reference. Please add to this list or expand info with any other deaths. Chendy 11:27, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The above mentioned deletion debate yielded no censensus; but many of the user who wanted to keep the article (including me) admitted that it's focus was too narrow by listing only people of colour - hence the POV tag. -- 790 (talk) 22:16, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

  • fix overlinks,  Done
  • check for incorrect caps,  Done
  • remove any from second list that don't meet "unexplained circumstances surrounding those deaths, allegations of maltreatment, dereliction of duty or brutality",
  • consider compacting to table with columns for shooting, custody, RTA.  Done RTA and shooting aren't in custody, so removed.
  • Look for other sources.
  • remove "inquest result unknown"

OK great chunks of text were copied from the source which is copyright, therefore I have removed that section. Note also that the page at IRR is itself not sourced, and somewhat dated "Last updated: 19 February 2004 The Institute of Race Relations is precluded from expressing a corporate view: any opinions expressed are therefore those of the authors. [...] © Institute of Race Relations" Rich Farmbrough, 15:24, 7 August 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Furthermore some all of those on the list were in hospital custody according to the source, not police custody. Rich Farmbrough, 15:26, 7 August 2009 (UTC).[reply]

This needs a proper overview, mention that all deaths in police custody are subject to inquest (if true?), outline of notable cases, details on what other forms of custody exist. Also be good to link to Home Office figures as well as/instead of those "derived from" Rich Farmbrough, 15:52, 7 August 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Official reports, when talking of deaths in custody include police pursuits, road traffic accidents, shootings and hospital custody. These official reports are used by the media when they report on deaths in custody. Is Wikipedia going to decide on our own definition (even if we can argue that we are right and everyone else is wrong) and contradict other media? If so, then this should be explained explicitly, so that people reading both other media and Wikipedia can understand why there is a discrepancy in the numbers.
