Name[edit]

Does anyone know why they went with City of Bismarck rather than just Bismarck? The only other time the US Navy did that, off the top of my head, is the USS City of Corpus Christi, since they wanted to make sure everyone knew it was named for the city and not the body of Christ. Was this to make sure everyone knew it was not named for the German battleship Bismarck? --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:22, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well... when the name Bismarck was first announced, there was a small uproar over various parts of the internet over the similarity in name to the German battleship (although the tone was more amused than angry). I can't really find any official sources as to why the name was changed but that does seem like the most likely reason 108.15.35.118 (talk) 17:20, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
