BR first INSURV[edit]

In this article it is noted as in January '71, but it was in December '70 (12-!5). Confusion may have been in it's one source document from the Philly shipyard BEACON publication. Only in these last few years some of the ship logs have come online (Nov '70, Dec '70 & April '75). You can find more about this on my FB page. BR underway record claims[edit]

Below is pretty much what I have on my FB page:

When BR made the claim in 2020 that the virus steaming exceeded the time record of being underway set in 1972 during GOT ops of the Nam War, I raised what I thought was a technical objection because of all of the anchorages she did in 2020. For one reason or another I never looked up the definition of "underway". As you can see the definition of "underway" shows that the Blue Ridge steaming for the virus in 2020 never exceeds 29 days ! So, the BR record for days underway remains with the '72 GOT crew !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underway "Underway, or under way, is a nautical term describing the state of a vessel. "Way" arises when there is sufficient water flow past the rudder of a vessel that it can be steered. A vessel is said to be underway if it meets the following criteria:

It is not aground

It is not at anchor

It has not been made fast to a dock, the shore, or other stationary object."

fyi - it appears that uscarriers.net has been deemed as an unreliable source at this WP:RSN discussion. - wolf 15:52, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the headup on that site but I have assumed that government sites are always questionable for security, given their history. I only read their postings and never have had any problem from that site that I am aware of. Thier reliability is not perfect, they missed our 7 days in Subic that defined the BR '72 underway record and I still can't fathom how they counted "71 consecutive days" in their 24 May White Beach posting. However, they are still the best site I am aware of, especially with command history reports links down because they are moving their servers. "USS Blue Ridge Sails Through Underway Record" from https://www.facebook.com/.../a.2496.../10157244475092823/... site does not make any sense with the definition of "underway" I am using. If anyone has a better definition, let's hear it ! Spooks x intel (talk) 00:33, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps if you posted this at WT:SHIPS, you would get more editors responding. (imo) - wolf 05:00, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see it fitting that link's Wiki concerns, besides, after reading some of the entries, I think I rather be torn apart by a pack of wolves! 😁 I have posted the above wherever possible that this issue comes up. This is really a Navy & BR issue, it took me better than 10 years to get BR to recognize it qualified for the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal in the 50-year celebration. The attempted terrorist attack on BR between USS Cole and the WTC in 2001.[edit]

"... BLUE RIDGE arrived in Port KeLang on 09 April to support continued relations building between the US and Malaysia. In response to the terrorist attack on the USS COLE in Yemen, BLR adopted the practice of deploying a small boat and posting armed pier sentries to increase force protection. Combined with the floating barrier of barges provided by husbanding agent Mr. Francis Leonard of Glenn Marine Group, BLR was able to thwart a potential terrorist attack. A group of Malaysians attempted to attack BLR by a small boat loaded with explosives but were unable to because of the ring of barges. The group was arrested while robbing a bank in an attempt to gain more money for explosives. ..." From the 2001 Command Operation Report for BR.
