Untitled[edit]

In fact the USS Hercules(PHM-2)was the sixth ship of the class completed. The Hercules construction was started when the PHM project was a joint NATO concept. NATO pulled the plug and the Navy stopped construction after Pegasus was completed as an operational prototype. Hercules not completed parts were systematicly stripped to keep Peggy operational until additional; funding was provided to restart the program. PHM's 3-6 were completed then PHM-2 was completed making Hercules both the second oldest and youngest of the PHM's. There are really two different classes of PHM the Pegasus class of one vessel and the Tarus class of 5 being hull numbers 2-6 the last completed being 2. Systems are very similar on both classes but the differences in some hull structures make them clearly seperate vessels.
