2nd Largest Employer in New York State
Additionally, the university is the largest employer in the Greater Rochester area and the 2nd largest employer in New York.[7]
The note 7 is attached to dead link. A google search confirms that UofR (with more than 30,0000 employees) is indeed the second-largest employer in NY State.
However, a Rochester newspaper reports that University of Rochester is the seventh-largest employer in the "Finger Lakes region" centered on Rochester. According to this source, UR is not on the top-ten statewide list.
Maybe the university could obtain a research grant so as to try and settle this burning question.
