Translated name[edit]

About the correct translatation of the name in portuguese "Universidade Estadual do Paraná", the correct is State University of Paraná, in accordance with State University of Maringá (Universidade Estadual de Maringá), State University of Londrina (Universidade Estadual de Londrina) and others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toni Max (talk • contribs) 18:54, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Toni Max: There are counter-examples, e.g., São Paulo State University. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Brazil/Education and Science in Brazil task force/Listing#State; compare state-named versus city- or region-named state universities -- which is the difference between Paraná State University and State University of Maringá (a city). The only valid reason for not following those conventions is if you contact the international relations office and they say differently; we've contacted a handful, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Brazil/Education and Science in Brazil task force/Listing#Region-named. Well, that's a terrible translation. E.g., they call it "folder" instead of brochire, use lower-case English, etc. But as it's self declared, it should be taken as official. It's also in [1]. I've received a response from the International Office Advisor at UNESPAR on March 6th stating that "University of the State of Paraná" is the current preferred form in English.
