GA Reassessment

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Us Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch!/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

Many of the sources here are not reliable:

  • Source 1 is an archived fansite which does not seem to be reliable.
  • Source 2 is just a scan of the ad with no context, also from a fansite.
  • Sources 4 and 6 (tvparty.com, historian.org) also appear to be fansites.
  • There are several {{citation needed}}s throughout. The intro is also very short, and much of the "cultural impact" section appears to be WP:SYNTH as the sources do not corroborate them as responses or parodies to the slogan.
  • The "Famous tareyton fighters" section is fully unsourced.
  • The "Development" section is also very sparse. With this being an older campaign, this is somewhat understandable, but surely as a notable one, there's more to say about it.

Date of first television commercial

The article states "In 1966, the first television advertisements with the slogan aired." I recently watched an episode of "What's My Line?" on YouTube dated January 31, 1965. Near the end of the video (22:44) is a Tareyton commercial that features the slogan discussed in this article. (I tried to place a link to the video here, but I received an error message.) The article should be revised to say "1965" at least, but since the commercial ran early in 1965, the slogan may have aired earlier. At any rate, 1966 is incorrect.SatyrInTheCity (talk) 10:32, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
