Landviði[edit]

This 'Landviði' name which comes out of the blue in the article might make someone curious. It's actually based on the Grímnismál stanza. Take a look at the manuscript text: [1]

You can see the stanza, it starts 12 lines from the bottom up: "Hrisi vex & ok há grasi viþars land.viði" The syntax is a bit tricky here and some early commentators took Landviði to be the name of Víðarr's dwelling place. The lead is a bit short. Maybe mention briefly the theories in the lead. (I know it isn't easy to balance things, but the lead was just a little short). In this sentence "Ægir invites the gods to come to his hall in numbers in Germanic paganism months." the syntax of "three" and "numbers in Germanic paganism" are the wrong way around in the link. One really picky thing (to closer perfect the article, and by far a GA requirement): when using a range in for instance a page citation, use the endash (–), not the hyphen (-). You can access the endash from the "insert" line under the text box when editing. Otherwise—as always—a well written, comprehensive and engaging text.
It is factually accurate and verifiable.

Name[edit]

I cannot help but find it overly, and unnecessarily, pedantic to spell the name Víðarr. I am well aware this is the original spelling, but if one is to adhere to that rule, one might as well change Tuscany to Tusculanum, York to Jorvik (or even: Euboracium), and Egypt to Hat-ka-Ptah.

I propose changing Víðarr to Vidar (which is the form in almost every other language), or even Vidarr. --Sparviere (talk) 15:20, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the guideline reflecting the consensus we have reached on English Wikipedia about cases like these: Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(Norse_mythology)#Standard_spelling. Víðarr stronger than Þórr?[edit]

Þórr is of course stated to be the strongest god while Víðarr is second.
