Size of the telescope names after him[edit]

This article says

'Director of the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, which has the largest 4-m telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, In 1995, the telescope was dedicated in his honor and named the Victor M. Blanco Telescope; it is also known as the "Blanco 4m"'

However the Cerro_Tololo_Inter-American_Observatory article says that the Southern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) telescope at the same facility (and hence in the Southern Hemisphere) is 4.1m in size.

SOAR was 'dedicated' in 2004 so perhaps it should read something like

'Director of the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. In 1995, the 4 m telescope, then the largest 4-m telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, was dedicated in his honor and named the Victor M. Blanco Telescope; it is also known as the "Blanco 4m"'

When it was built, it was the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere (of any class). Larger telescopes were being built at Keck, but not yet in the Southern Hemisphere. Now, of course, Gemini and SALT dwarf CTIO's telescopes. ScienceApologist (talk) 17:48, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
