Vaja-Pshavela[edit]

He is known to English-speaking society as Vaja-Pshavela. This is right name and do not move again.--Vaxxxo (talk) 08:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, he isn't known with that spelling in the English-speaking world almost at all. I am a native English speaker and linguist of Kartvelian languages, and can tell you categorically from more than 10 years of experience working with Georgian that the spelling 'Vaja-Pshavela' is almost unknown in English and looks more French; in English we ONLY use 'j' for the sound ჟ in French words. Otherwise, English 'j' ALWAYS reflects the same sound as Georgian 'ჯ'. When we want to spell the sound in his name, we use 'zh' normally in words of Georgian origin. -- trwier —Preceding undated comment added 10:17, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In other words, if you see 'Vaja-Pshavela' online, you need to check whether the writer is actually an English native speaker; even highly educated Georgians are often unaware of the proper spellings, in English, of thousands of words, as looking at almost any restaurant menu in Tbilisi will prove. Spelling his name as 'Vaja-Pshavela' in English is like spelling his name as ვაჯა-ფშაველა -- it is simply incorrect. Trwier (talk) 10:49, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling aside, what just happened was a cut and paste move... should be undone so that article history stays with the text. Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves Сол-раз (talk) 14:41, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
