Hi, I'm Susan. I will be editing and adding to this article. Improvements can be made by elaborating on the different types of vertical displacement. Including more information will make the article easier to conceptualize and it will become more informative. I would like to add information on uplift, subsidence, and orogeny specifically and how they create vertical displacement. Need for article[edit]

I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, but I'm not clear what purpose an article on this topic will serve. Vertical displacement can come about from a variety of rather disparate causes, such as the movement of magma, active tectonics, isostatic adjustments to erosion or glacial withdrawal or loading by sediments or volcanoes, subsidence due to past tectonics, cooling of oceanic lithosphere, uplift over mantle upwellings. I know that the different causes of vertical displacement are generally unrelated, so it does seem like it's going to be a slight challenge to make everything come together. That being said, thank you for bring up this very valid point. I will try to figure out a way to compile the different causes of vertical displacement, explain them individually and come up with a better understanding of how these individual occurrences can be tied together.
