No no no. There should be a page for "Video Capture" when you capture DV/HDV/analog video in Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut that is called "video capture" there's alot of info out there (codecs, formats, multiplexing, etc.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.152.85.201 (talk) 02:15, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Definition, and: capturing problems

is the definition of video-capture "Video capture is the process of converting an analog video signal" not too narrow?? everywhere the "capturing" (sic!) of data from a digicam (producing digital footage) to a computer is also called "capturing". so please experts, think about including this!

furthermore I'd like to ask for some practical help: oftentimes (you find it via google) people (like me) struggle with getting video-footage (that looks fine on their cam-display and on TV-screens, directly displayed from the cam) onto their computers via capturing that is "way too dark"; and an answer to the problem seems elusive... to my mind it evidently has to do with color-space-conversion! so could this please be addressed specifically?! what is the color-space used in digicams (IRE 0.0/16-235, YIQ, YUV, YPbPr, YCbCr, Y'CbCr...)? what on TV-screens? and what on computer-screens (RGB, sRGB??). and what is the color-conversion-software? names? where does it operate (on the graphic cards? on the capturing, i.e. vidoe-processing-software, like premiere? in the operating system?). and how can it be changed, if it does not work well???

and does that have to do with codes (compression/decompression)? people say that capturing via firewire and IEEE 1394 is transfer without any alteration and .avi-format is without compression. and still the mentioned problem occurs... if yes, where do I change the active codecs??

should such widespread issues not be addressed in the article??!!

decoding?

the article says: "Together, these steps constitute(d??) video decoding..." should that not be called "encoding"?? since "decoding" is the interpretation of encoded material...? --HilmarHansWerner (talk) 03:42, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Obsolete

This article and its subject are obsolete as all video sources are digital and have been for years.

Analog video tapes are essentially antiques and DVD player outputs are digital.

The name "Video Capture" should be reserved for the process of capturing video from online or flash players. ---Dagme (talk) 18:41, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Seriously though, even if it's out of fashion, the article should remain here. For cases of ambiguity, the article already has a hatnote with "This article is about analog video capture. For digital video screen capture, see Screencast." -- intgr [talk] 00:51, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
