Inscriptions[edit]

The article says, without citation:

"The original inscription above the gateway was "MANUFACTURE ROYALE" but this was later rather crudely changed by the Republic to "HONNEUR AU TRAVAIL" - Honour in work."

As it happens, I was there just a few hours ago. The "honneur au travail" appears in the fancy curved section above the gateway. Below that, on the lintel, is the single word "MANUFACTURE" - it's quite clear in the article's picture. After it is the space where the word "ROYALE" would have been. Is it likely that "honneur au travail" was always there, or added during/after the Revolution, and the only erasure was the word "royale"? Emeraude (talk) 16:38, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Further, Revue historique illustré, Feb. 1866, page 175, says the change was made in 1848 after the February Revolution (not the 1789 revolution) and repeats the detail that the whole inscription was removed. Emeraude (talk) 17:10, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
