The Virginia Military District[edit]

This article is anemic to the point of being just plain bad history. Was it ignorance? Provincialism? Or what? The Virginia Military District was a substantial area in southern and western Kentucky (then Kentucky County, Virginia) allocated in 1779. Later, in 1784, a supplemental area, described in the article was allocated north of the Ohio River. It'd be ok, if there was a complementary article Kentucky Military District, which is a plausible article title, but there is no such article, nor does this article even mention the fact. Yes, there is more that could be said about the Kentucky land in the original military district. I suspect the reason the Ohio lands have a higher profile is that the KY district was really an action of the Virginia government -- while the reservation of Ohio district was a condition placed on Virginia's cession to the federal government and resulting legal actions involving boundaries, and surveys and conflicting claims had federal oversight, with correspondingly greater publicity. older ≠ wiser 17:28, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
