External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Virtual CD-ROM switching utility. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Incorrect source interpretation removed[edit]

I'm removing this section from the article, due to its being massively incorrect.

Fetch utility

huaweiAktBbo.c is a utility that can be compiled and re-creates the USB communication which is used in Windows.[1]

I got suspicious when I noticed, as you can see in the cite below, that the linked HowTo contains info regarding a USB 3G modem. So I pulled up an old archive of the page (which is currently... damaged, at the source) and looked it over.

The instructions do mention disabling a CD interface, which I guess the modem uses to deliver drivers or other software. However, the huaweiAktBbo.c file contains the Linux communication drivers for the modem, and has nothing to do with the CD interface. That's disabled by simply running rmmod usb-storage in a shell, just as they instruct the user.

That instruction immediately follows the step where the drivers are compiled, so I guess whoever added this thought the two were somehow related. They have nothing to do with each other. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 16:55, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You know what? I take it back. I looked over the original source, and while the utility isn't what disables the CD interface, it does activate the modem interface on the device, making it a valid part of the process of switching from virtual CD-ROM mode. I've restored the above text, though it could use clarification. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 17:08, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
