Untitled[edit]

'However, most Scottish Viscounts have dropped the practice of using "of." The only ones who persist in the usage of the word are the Viscount of Arbuthnott, and, to a lesser extent, the Viscount of Oxfuird.'

How many Scottish Viscounts are there? I read elsewhere that there were only three. —Whouk (talk) 14:22, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's actually over 30 extant viscountcies in the Scottish peerage, but the vast majority are subsidiary titles held by higher-ranking peers. Arbuthnott, Falkland, and Oxfuird are the exceptions. Zacwill (talk) 23:30, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"A College Situate in a Clearer Air"[edit]

A Lord Falkland is mentioned as having said this in the John Buchan story 'Fullcircle'. The quaote is treated as one which the reader might recognize. Anyone know which Lord Falkland is supposed to have said this, and why? 170.170.59.139 (talk) 05:56, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it was someone else, referring to the second viscount's Great Kew Circle. It was misquoted by Buchan as 'purer air'. Suggest it be added to the article as a known contemp. reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.170.59.139 (talk) 06:11, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
