Name change[edit]

No. And I think there aren't any English sources using "Vlach People's Party", or discussing the party at all. If I am mistaken, I will revert back.

I also want to note the following part of WP:COMMONNAME: When there is no single, obvious name that is demonstrably the most frequently used for the topic by these sources, editors should reach a consensus as to which title is best by considering these criteria directly. It appears that the Political Handbook of the World (see here) mistranslated the Vlach Democratic Party into Vlach People's Party for some reason, although besides that source, which is mistranslated, I haven't found any reliable ones that use Vlach People's Party as its name. Same goes for the Romanian People's Party. Though, alongside its Serbian and Romanian names, VNS seems to also have "Vlach People's Party" in its Twitter bio. If we ignore the Twitter source though, I'd propose moving the article to the name that is used by most reliable sources. The official registry of political parties in Serbia (p. 5) uses both names, so that's not helpful. --Vacant0 (talk) 22:19, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What I've noticed is that most reliable sources that are in Serbian use the Serbian name only (Danas, N1, Radio Free Europe, BBC News, 021.rs) though some also use both names (ngportal, Bor030). Romanian sources use the Romanian name (afnews).

Institutions and organizations seem to translate VNS into "Vlach National Party" for example (Republic Electoral Commission, OSCE p. 29, ENEMO p. 24).

What should we use? Vlaška narodna stranka, Partia Neamului Rumânesc or Vlach National Party? Vacant0 (talk) 22:34, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The English name at Twitter is relevant, so we should bear it in mind. Still, the fact that the party has a pro-Romanian orientation is noteworthy. They regard themselves as Romanians, so it would be strange to label them as something else. We for sure shouldn't use a non-English name. Maybe we could go back to Vlach People's Party, but I'd like to listen your thoughts on the orientation issue. Super Ψ Dro 22:38, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "Vlach National Party" would be alright considering that it seems to be the only translation that is actually backed up by reliable sources. Regarding its pro-Romanian orientation, that should be noted in the article as it is right now. It is also mentioned that "Timok Romanians are referred as Vlachs in Serbian". Sorry, I just noticed you had been discussing another English name other than "Vlach People's Party". I've searched "Vlach National Party" and there indeed are many results, including in academic articles. Yes, I think it is the most appropriate title, as unlike any other it is used in English-language sources.
