Should this article be renamed?[edit]

Should this article be renamed Voltron: Defender of the Universe as that the correct title of the original 1984 version of Voltron. What are other people's opinions. Dwanyewest (talk) 09:38, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You could open a WP:RM on the question. However, just glancing at the sources used at the article I'm not noticing any of them calling it Voltron: Defender of the Universe, just Voltron. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 12:23, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Voltron (1984 TV series) → Voltron: Defender of the Universe – I feel this article should be renamed Voltron: Defender of the Universe as that is the official title of the 1984 show and there is plenty of third person sources to support that idea see sources here [1] [2] [3]. On a sidenote I also feel that Voltron: Defender Of The Universe should be redirected here also. Dwanyewest (talk) 16:44, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Leaning oppose – based on the sources at the article, it looks like the WP:COMMONNAME is just "Voltron". (WP:OFFICIALNAME is also relevant here...) However, assuming that this RM does not pass, I would probably agree that Voltron: Defender Of The Universe should redirect to Voltron (1984 TV series), and not to just Voltron (at the least, a WP:RfD should be held on the question...). --IJBall (contribs • talk) 18:06, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose – I was initially leaning support, once I remembered that there were two different 1980s versions of Voltron. Surely, I thought, the "vehicle Voltron" series had a different title, and those titles should be used to differentiate them? But, no — turns out the episodes about both teams were part of the same Voltron: Defender of the Universe series. In fact, Vehicle Voltron does redirect to this article. So it's only in recent years, since 2011's Voltron Force and especially with Netflix having done Voltron: Legendary Defender, that some writers use full titles for all of the shows as a way of differentiating them. It's almost impossible to find pre-2010 sources that referred to the show as anything more than simply "Voltron". ...All that said, I too agree that the redirect for Voltron: Defender Of The Universe should be changed to point here. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 02:16, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
