Sign-on date of WLRN-TV[edit]

According to WLRN-TV's article, the station signed on in August 1955. But in WPLG's article, channel 17 was home to WITV, Miami's ABC affiliate, until shortly after channel 10 signed on in 1957, in which WITV closed down. Could someone explain this? -- azumanga 05:34, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still researching it, but near as I can tell, NET/PBS station histories are somewhat convoluted. WTHS Channel 2 was the station that signed on in 1955 with a two hour broadcast day, according to the articles posted here. My theory is this: WTHS was both used by the Dade County School Board and the Community Television Foundation up until 1962. In 1962, Channel 17 came back on the air as a second educational channel (hence the call sign WSEC) and continued to share Channel 2. It think this was the situation until 1978 when WTHS changed their call sign to WPBT. I think at this time the Dade School Board went to channel 17 exclusively and changed the calls to WLRN-TV to match the radio station. -- biggoodie 09:09, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
