Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material[edit]

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 02:53, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on WTVR-TV. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Proposed merge of WTVR TV Tower into WTVR-TV[edit]

Tower is not independently notable, should be mentioned in article on the station that operates it. MB 14:48, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly disagree with that assessment. The WTVR tower is a well known landmark in Richmond Virginia. News articles such as this; https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/wtvr-tv-souths-first-television-station-celebrates-72-years depecite it as being and I quote; "The station’s landmark tower, which sits at 1,049 feet above sea level, was the largest freestanding structure in the country when it was built in 1953 and now stands as a familiar Richmond landmark. The tower will turn 67 this year." This structure was once the tallest tower of any type in the United States and only surpassed in height by five buildings and one tower in the world at the time of it's construction; Empire State Building, Eiffel Tower, Chrysler Building, 70 Pine Street, 40 Wall Street & the GE Building. It is the 26th tallest steel lattice tower in the world and 24 of the 25 towers which are taller than it have their own wikipedia articles. It was a substantive increase from the NSS Annapolis, one of the previous holders of the tallest tower(s) in the United States for which there is a wikipedia article. It is no less noteworthy than those structures.LayfonCSR (talk) 04:58, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You have given several reason why YOU think it is notable, but there is no coverage in sources that are required for WP to consider it notable. All the sources you have provided are just database entries, not in-depth coverage. MB 05:24, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
News articles are not database entries. Aside from that your point is rendered moot because the structure is independently notable from the station, the WTVR-TV is not the sole user of the tower.LayfonCSR (talk) 00:24, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
