Some points to improve[edit]

Wikipedia does not foretell the future (WP:NOTFUTURE). Any statements about scheduled future events should be attributed to their sources.

Also, can we get a clarification: is the table of the stations' digital channels supposed to include channels transmitted by WNEU and WMFP? It would be clearer to take the latter info out of the table and describe it separately, or point to those stations' articles. Bistropha (talk) 07:44, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, to correct an error in the infobox: Rather, WNEU is the principal station (despite its location); WBTS is a translator, per its FCC record [1]. WMFP is a full-power station, and relaying the "NBC Boston" program stream on a subchannel does not make it a translator. Bistropha (talk) 07:58, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The subchannel leased from WMFP with PSIP 60-5 that's being used to increase WBTS's signal in the primary market is actually broadcasting in 720p. The table on this page should be updated, along with a note that this might be among the only OTA stations in the US where NBC programming, usually in 1080i, can be seen in 720p. yobyot (talk) 03:02, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was seeing all the "NBC 10" banners in South Station. I kept going home trying to reset my HDTV antenna in Cambridge but there was no 10-1 (dead aire). I just flipped to 60-5 WBTS-LD and this is the first I am seeing "NBC 10" News. I turned to 7-1 WHDH and it is calling itself "7 New England" Nothing shows up as 8-1 nor 46-1 (both dead aire)? Excessive detail in lead[edit]

There is some good-faith disagreement among editors about how much detail on the NBC affiliation shift is needed in the lead of this article. A recent edit[2] tripled the length of the lead by restoring details previously removed: details which are reported in the History section.

Here is the text added:

The station, originally known as W32AY and later WTMU-LP, initially served as an affiliate of the Spanish-language television network Telemundo; at first it was the main station, but it later acted as a translator of WNEU (whose signal does not reach the entire city of Boston). On January 7, 2016, NBC Owned Television Stations president Valari Staab confirmed that NBC had declined to renew its affiliation with WHDH, and that it planned to launch an owned-and-operated outlet for the network known as NBC Boston on January 1, 2017. At the time, NBC did not provide specific details on which stations would be used to carry the new service over-the-air, although WHDH's owner Sunbeam Television sued NBCUniversal under the presumption that it planned to only use WNEU—as it would have considerably reduced the ability to receive the network over the air in Boston (thus bolstering the cable services provided by NBC's parent company Comcast in the city).
On August 31, 2016, NBCUniversal quietly filed to acquire the low-power station from its previous owner, ZGS Communications. The following month, ZGS filed a request to the FCC to upgrade the station to a digital signal. NBC later announced that the station, renamed WBTS-LD, would serve as the main station of the NBC Boston service as part of a simulcast with WNEU-DT2 (virtual 60.2). NBC also leased a subchannel of WMFP (virtual channel 60.5) in Lawrence, Massachusetts to provide an alternate full-power signal for viewers in the Boston area. On cable and satellite, WBTS-LD is primarily carried on channel 10.

- Moreover, there is an inconsistency: the lawsuit and its reasoning are mentioned, but its outcome is not included in the lead.

- is "quietly" a key point? the 31st? the previous owner?
- If the filing is important, is the completion of the purchase not important enough to mention?

- Does it make sense to treat the filing as important, but not mention the implementation of the upgrade?

WTMU and WNEU: which was the translator?[edit]

The intro says that WTMU "acted as a translator of WNEU". The History section says that "WNEU began to carry Telemundo programming as a satellite of WTMU in April 2003". Can someone clarify which one is correct? Bistropha (talk) 03:26, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Support, as article titles for US broadcast stations are at the current call signs under naming conventions. (Within the articles themselves, we might eventually need to have to put more of the NBC Boston stuff — especially those not explicitly tied to either license — in what will become the WBTS-CD article, but that's a semi-separate matter that shouldn't necessarily hold up any page moves.) --WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 18:29, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
