Maps[edit]

Neither the 1870s map nor the 1940s map has any mention of Wadi al-Hawarith, so, why are these maps included? --Crash48 (talk) 19:25, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To show what was in this place in earlier times. Even if nothing was here, that is useful information. Zerotalk 03:29, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are we certain that the coordinates are correct, given that none of the maps shows the village at that location? --Crash48 (talk) 18:37, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are right to raise this issue. It is a problematic case because the Arab residents were bedouin with no single main site. Please go here and look at the maps from different periods. On the 1:100K map, "Wadi al Hawarith" marks the geographical feature. On the other hand, the 1:20K map shows "Wadi el Hawarith" further to the south east (the "Wadi" is missing because it is in the margin of the original map and lost when the map sheets were joined together). That is not the geographical feature, but the village lands of that name. There was a long legal battle starting in the 1920s over the purchase of these lands and eviction of the Arabs; it should be described here. Zerotalk 04:52, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've boldly updated the coordinates and the map images. Khalidi's mention that Kfar Haroeh and Geulei Teiman were settled on what was traditionally village land, but Mikhmoret (shown in the previous map fragments) wasn't, is an additional reference confirming that the settlement was located a few kilometers to the east of what the map fragments were showing. --Crash48 (talk) 10:28, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Was it a village?[edit]

the Arab residents were bedouin with no single main site -- Would it be fair to replace "village" throughout the article with a term not implying compactness? E.g. [1] and "Memoranda Prepared by the Government of Palestine" (searchable but not viewable on Google Books) call it a "camping site". --Crash48 (talk) 10:23, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In absence of objections here, I've boldly updated the article. --Crash48 (talk) 12:06, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
