Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted because... --Barneyfrench (talk) 09:44, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page promotes an entirely charitable event which raises thousands of pounds of money for worthwhile causes every year - it is of genuine interest to the general public to read the history of the event and future developments as it continues to take shape. What's the point in wikipedia if it can't be used to inform people!

Having studied the reason given for deletion, I am rewriting the article from a neutral viewpoint to the best of my ability.

Thanks. I'm cut/pasting the response I put on my talk page here: the main problem with its current iteration is that it is written in an overly promotional tone. Wikipedia articles are supposed to be written from a neutral point of view, and cannot be written in excessively laudatory tones or serve as advertising - even for good causes. The article is also written in the first person, which is generally inappropriate here. You should also probably read WP:COI - if you are the same Barney who is listed elsewhere as organizing the festival, it is generally considered bad form for you to create/edit the article. If the event is notable, other people will eventually do so. (It could also use some more third party sources to establish it's wp:notability, but that's a secondary problem.) Kevin, thanks for your explanation. I can see now how it was wrong to be written in first person. I am not hugely knowledgeable about wikipedia and this is my first attempt at a page. I've edited my content to what I feel is acceptable, but please tell me if there is something else I can do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Barneyfrench (talkcontribs) 10:47, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am declaring an interet in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldstock_Festival_UK - I am the organiser. My role in the event is entirely voluntary and I get no material gain from promoting it. Barneyfrench (talk) 10:59, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have spoken to admin HJ Mitchell for his advice, and he has advised me on some steps which I have followed, and he does not believe this page should be deleted. Barneyfrench (talk) 14:27, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
