Namesake[edit]

Was Walker, CA named after Joseph R. Walker? I'm assuming so, since his bio says he began his ascension of the Sierra Nevada in nearby Bridgeport. I suppose the town could be named after the river, but the river was named after him so it would still be his name which inspired the naming of the town. I used to live in Coleville, so maybe I'm biased, but I think this info is interesting and should be added. Cornelius Cole is mentioned in the Coleville article, after all.

  • Also, it seems everywhere Walker travelled through during expeditions had something named after him- Walker River, Walker Pass, and Walker, AZ, just to name a couple.
