Head's up - I removed the Category:Schedule II banks in Canada (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) category from this redirect page because it was causing non-bank Walmart Canada to be listed in that banking category. The sale of the banking operations and renaming to Duo Bank of Canada was completed April 1, 2019. Seeking consensus that this category removal was a good move, so it can't be re-added. @Dmehus: summoned by bot. What you did was correct and uncontroversial. I read a bit about this and what we need is a Duo Bank article to add the category to, and to change the redirect to there. I didn't know before now that redirect pages can have categories - doesn't that seem unnecessary since it's going to lead to confusion or frustration if people find an entry on a category page and are then redirected? Timtempleton, Thanks for that. Yeah, I've thought of creating a Duo Bank article, but it is not likely notable as it generates little press coverage outside of personal finance-focused blogs. Moreover, WP:CORPDEPTH needs to be considered in that it's doubtful there's sufficient sources on which to write more than a stub- or start-class article on Duo Bank. Ideally, I'd like to see this redirect deleted, but I doubt it'll pass RfD because Walmart Canada Bank is "mentioned on the target page," so can't see how we'd generate consensus to delete it.

I also didn't know redirect pages could be categorized, which is why I proposed deleting a couple categories. If you want, I've proposed deleting Category:Schedule II banks in Canada since, primarily, it's consisting almost entirely of redirect pages. Feel free to add your voice of support in upmerging those pages to Category:Banks of Canada.

I do agree with you that I'm not sure it's particularly helpful to categorize redirects, though! LOL Doug Mehus (talk) 22:09, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

Thanks @Jojalozzo:. I can see merit to categorizing redirects, but sometimes, like this case, it causes problems wherein the bank subsidiary of Walmart Canada was sold to Stephen Smith and Centerbridge Partners earlier this year. Since the renamed company Duo Bank of Canada does not meet notability guidelines for companies, there's nothing for it to redirect to. I'm not sure what the policy is on tagging redirects as there is potential for them in the future and they may be of interest to WikiProjects.Doug Mehus (talk) 00:20, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
