This place does not exist[edit]

Almost never, you mean, not never ever, as it has been referred to as Ramona by a small number of websites, including the Los Angeles Times.

Well, yes. That's how unincorporated areas are named. Someone "invents" an area by giving a piece of unincorporated area a name. What do you say about the unincorporated areas of Vincent and Citrus? Those areas have zero signage and are not called that by anyone in those areas either. People call them Covina or Azusa. You could just as easily say they invented those areas. Okay, Ramona has only been used by the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, but Walnut Islands has been used by the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning. So while the area has no acknowledgement by the public, it does have some recognition by the county and by the Los Angeles Time website. So I think the name should be acknowledged due to the acknowledgement it's received by the county government as a name used for governing purposes, even if they invented the name as they invented the other unincorporated areas' names. The county government had to invent a name because the area doesn't really have a common name widely used by the public the way East Los Angeles does, so they had to improvise by pulling a name out of thin air.

Anyway, the decision made was to keep the article due to its recognition by the county government, despite the name not being used by the public. I think you are basically correct that nobody living in the area has ever really called it that, but the county government still uses this name for it nevertheless. If you want to see why the article was kept in more detail, you can look at the discussion, and form your own opinion on the matter. That's all I can say. Cal Poly Pomona[edit]

The article describes Cal Poly Pomona as being entirely within the community, but this only based on a CPP accounts payable page for tax purposes. This does not necessarily mean the entire campus is in Ramona/Walnut Hills. In fact, the reference just states that CPP is in unincorporated Los Angeles County, not Ramona/Walnut Hills. The Wikipedia policy on verifiability states that "Exceptional claims require exceptional sources" (see WP:EXTRAORDINARY.) This claim needs stronger references. Census[edit]

Unfortunately this isn't a straightforward task since Walnut Islands/Ramona isn't a CDP and overlaps several tracts. We'd have to use a newer "neighborhood profile" which I'm having trouble finding. –dlthewave ☎ 12:48, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's just one of the census blocks in Walnut Islands. You'd have to add up the population all the census blocks to get the number of people in Walnut Islands. I know that sounds tedious, but as far as I can tell there's not gonna be any easy way to get a census population estimate since it isn't a census-designated place. I found a population estimate in the Walnut Islands PDF that I archived, but I don't think it was from a census, it seemed to be a 2019 estimate.
