Western Portal?[edit]

Is it the actual western portal of the Wapping tunnel that is visible at the end of Kings Dock Road? - I had always understood that the tunnel "proper" emerged below Upper Frederick Street, into a short (~35m) open-air section, in which the tracks split three ways before passing into Wapping Goods station via three separate, short tunnels under the mini-roundabout junction of Park Lane/Jamaica Street. If this is correct, it would be the middle one of these which can be seen at Kings Dock Road.

See this aerial photo at Multimap - the bit I'm referring to is the dark coloured triangle immediately to the right of the acute forked junction near the centre of the map. The red circle marker, on the other hand, is close to where the visible portal is located.

(Update: I've checked using GIS software, which on the one hand has better aerial photos and seems to confirm the existence of the open-air section, but on the other hand measures the length from Edge Hill cutting to Upper Frederick Street as 1923m, over 100m short of the official length, which therefore must include the extra section to Kings Dock Road. I suppose it's possible that the whole is considered a single tunnel, even in spite of such an opening?)

I've now amended to include the above info. Quackdave 21:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of article[edit]

One user continually inserts a passage about a stadium for Everton FC and Clarence Dock. He has done this on a number of articles. Clarence Dock is nowhere near the Wapping Tunnel. The site is locked but the vandalized constant is still in the article. Please revert to the version before the vandalism. Thanks 212.139.118.236 (talk) 10:02, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
