A good source, even if it is The Daily Mail[edit]

Nye, James (21 March 2013). "The final days of Alcatraz revealed in new photographs released for 50th anniversary of prison closing its doors for good". The Daily Mail. {{cite news}}: |access-date= requires |url= (help); Text "//www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2297271/Alcatraz-final-days-revealed-new-photos-released-50th-anniversary-prison-closing.html" ignored (help) I encountered a spam filter that would not let me add this to the article. Even though it is actually quite a nice article with photographs. 7&6=thirteen () 18:52, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To begin with, “consensus” is not a fancy way of saying “me”. No one else, it appears, has come forward to do any substantive editing. Next, there is nothing either “informative” or “useful” here. If the article already show that the building burned, a bad photo showing smoke pouring out of it adds very little. Finally, “Wikipedia rightly discourages the use of blogs, but makes case-by-case exceptions” might be a better way of expressing the official attitude than “There is nothing prohibiting an external link, even if it is a "blog spot’, especially given the attitude some wikiteurs have to any external links. You are wrong about "me" being the only voice (or editor) of reason. You have been trashing articles even as they go through WP:AFD. A Self fulfilling prophecy, so to speak. This doesn't seem to be coincidental. And you are in an WP:Edit war here. WP:3RR. Your removal of my notice from your talk page only proved 'message received.' thank you. 7&6=thirteen () 19:36, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OR[edit]

This paragraphThe Warden's house had a greenhouse. Working there and getting access was a high mark of trust and approval for an inmate. was referenced to:

<><ref>{{cite web |url=https://alcatrazgardens.org/pdf/AZ%20Garden_05_12.pdf |format=[[PDF]] |title=Alcatraz gardens |work=Alcatraz Gardens Project |year=2003 |publisher=Alcatrazgardens.org, [[National Park Service]], The Gardens Conservancy, The Golden Gate National Parks Gardens Conservancy |accessdate=February 14, 2019<>

Which, as we well see in moment, does not particularly support it. This quote was extracted from it by the user above:

At the top of the main road are the ruins of the warden’s house, which included a small greenhouse built for Warden Swope’s wife Edna. Inmate Elliott Michener said he gained “a lasting interest in creativity” from eight years of building gardens on the west side. Near the end of his sentence he was promoted to the warden’s house, and after parole he wrote to the warden, “For the first time I’m learning how much better one can do living honestly than by, say, counterfeiting! We have cars and fat bank accounts...And we have a favor to ask: will you send us a bush of our old ‘Gardenia’ rose?”

“Promoted to” does not always mean “a high mark of trust and approval” without a good deal of reading into it. It may merely mean “we want these plants to look good, and there’s a guy in the tower who can deal with any bad ideas you come up with.” Qwirkle (talk) 00:22, 20 February 2019 (UTC)m[reply]
