Name of page

• Wouldn't Armoire be a better name for this page? I shall accede to the majority and agree that Wardrobe is an acceptable name. no. At least we get rid of the parenthesis. At worst the article ends up being UK centric, but my original proposal would leave us French and USA centric. Titles with parenthesis are weak in nature. Secondly, it will be easier to avoid disambiguation. Nevertheless note that most of the incoming links are through Armoire not Wardrobe. Decoratrix 21:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

• Reject. — For one thing, Wardrobe has other applications such as Wardrobe Supervisor, (a theatrical occupation). Armoire seems obscure in that respect, with no such other applications AFAIK. Perhaps its a Commonwealth English/US English difference, in which case the article should stay as first-named according to my understanding of WP policy. • No, I can't speak for other countries, but wardrobe has common useage in the UK. If anything this article should be moved to Wardrobe, as it's clearly the primary topic. The reason you've got more incoming links on this page via Armoire is because most for Wardrobe are going to the dab page. PC78 06:51, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

As a USA mover who has handled furniture for 30 years I would say an Armoire always has a drawer at the bottom and a wardrobe does not. Rename this article Wardrobe

Having regard to the issues and indications raised by User:PC78 above, the proper solution that now suggests itself to me is — to

• rename current page Wardrobe to wardrobe (disambiguation) perhaps with some later cleanup
• rename current page Wardrobe (furniture) as simply Wardrobe, and
• fix any links, redirects etc
• ensure correct links and text are in place in the article cabinet (furniture)
• above actions predicated on

1. a consensus for action (or a bold editor) and
2. an editor experienced in move/rename actions to care to follow up the required action of the consensus ((or a bold editor)).

Consensus seems to exist at this time (thank you for bringing this up, User:Decoratrix) to do these above renames; (within a reasonable time, to allow for further users to have a say). Now "Armoire" redirects to "Wardrobe" but the "Wardrobe" page doesn't say what an "Armoire" is... worse, this unhelpful page makes the front page of Google results for "Armoire". Likely copyright infringement

Large parts of the content of the page was added in a series of edits by a single editor. See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wardrobe&action=historysubmit&diff=478569265&oldid=478407110 . The edits add references to a website which contains a verbatim copy of the added content. While the content is widely copied on the Internet now, the references imply that the WP text is a direct copy of the referenced site.

The site in question does not provide a license for use of the content, but claims copyright and reserves all rights. It is not clear what the purpose or sources of site are, which again makes the accuracy of the information questionable.

Alternatively, the referenced site could have changed since the edits were made, and is now infringing on WP copyright. The external site could also have been created solely to be a reference for otherwise unverifiable material.

I raise my concern by this text, and the copyvio subst and blanking of the affected parts of the page. I hope an editor experienced in these matters will be able to sort out what the proper action is.

what does "press" mean?

This article desperately needs a link to an article explaining what "press" means in the context of storing clothing. By analogy with "linen press", which does have an article, I think maybe it might conceivably mean a set of shelves, but there is no way to find out without resorting to a paper reference. 98.206.86.187 (talk) 14:38, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

This article is sorely lacking in reputable sources for things other than the etymology. For instance, the eight small men method feels far-fetched enough to be a legend to me, but I could find no sources for or against that, since most use of that term seems to come from sites referencing this article. The top photo desn't look like the photo of a wardrobe at all

The top photo shows a very original and very elegant arts and craft object which looks like a combination of bookcase and writing desk. It doesn't look like a wardrobe at all. I think it should be changed to something which looks more like a wardrobe.--AlainV (talk) 19:50, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
