Where is it now?[edit]

It would be useful to link to the present-day counties and/or municipality/CDP in which the site of Washington-on-the-Brazos lies. As it is, the only specific geographic reference is the map, which isn't that illuminating to those not deeply acquainted with Texas geography. --Jfruh (talk) 05:43, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added links to the county in which Washington-on-the-Brazos is located and the two nearest towns plus coordinates. Hopefully that helps. -Nv8200p talk 14:35, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks! --Jfruh (talk) 17:22, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright concern addresses[edit]

One sentence of this article followed closely on another source, and the article was listed for that reason at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2008 September 8/Articles. The identified source was this. The sentence was introduced with this edit; compare the archived version of the source from 5 April 2005, here. While material was revised, it remained close enough to the original source to constitute a derivative work. For example, our article said, "...a small, ramshackle town built next to a ferry landing on the Brazos River...." This eliminates a few words from the source, "a small, roughhewn, ramshackle town, which had sprung up around a ferry landing next to the Brazos River", but follows closely in language and structure on the original. This material has been rewritten and should not be restored, unless it is duly released under a license compatible with GFDL or unless it is modified in accordance with our non-free content guidelines, with attribution and quotation marks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:13, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why the racial designation?[edit]

The History section currently starts with

Founded largely by European-American immigrants ...

What is the point of this clause? To begin with, if the intent is to distinguish the the settlers from the Spanish-speaking Mexicans, the Mexicans were of European descent as well (granted there was more mixing with the natives in Mexico than the rest of North America, but still). Perhaps the intent was more to distinguish from African Americans? I believe, though, given the time period, that should be obvious. If that clarification needs to be made here then there are hundreds of articles on American and European history that should be updated to spell out that it was white people who were involved in a variety of things. Point being, this seems a pointless clarification which could be interpreted as racist. If there was some more valuable point that was intended, then that should be made in a clearer way that does not imply something racist (intended or not).
