Untitled[edit]

Orphaned references in Global storm activity of 2010[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Global storm activity of 2010's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Badly referenced[edit]

Are we thinking about the impossible?[edit]

As i have seen, many people complain that the page is badly referenced. To go forward with my opinion, i feel that we have come to a situation where we have to take an immediate action, or see that the next year's page is not like this. In order to fix the current problem, it would take a period of 2 weeks for a human. The work is so complicated and boring (to be honest) that no-one wants to do it. If we have any bot to help us, then let it begin immediately. If the page seems to have grown up to such an extent where editing every line is almost impossible, then forget about the past, think about the future. Plan the future in a way that makes it perfect. Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Suggestions

This splitting, re-splitting and re-merging of the yearly global storm articles is starting to become problematic where it is difficult to keep track of all the content, contributions and references. I suggest simply having a set of two articles per year: one for the summer storms and one for the winter storms, then split that into two or three if necessary (but don't have 2 summer articles and 3 winter articles nor vice versa). IMHO entries for dust storms, tropical cyclones, non-unusual seasonal monsoon rains causing no major damage, minor dustings of snow except where extremely unusual, non-precipitation heat and cold waves, fire storms and very minor events should generally not be included in any of these articles (unless the occurrences are significant and there is nowhere else in articles to put them). There are plenty of things that need to be cleaned up in practically all of these articles, and I will participate in this process soon. It is preferable to have specific articles on the storms, but create one only when necessary, as many of them are already becoming outdated. The scope of the articles should primarily focus on weather bombs, widespread deadly snowstorms, extratropical lows, windstorms, ice storms, etc. for the winter, and severe flooding events, sudden downpours or flash floods, landslides, hailstorms, tornadoes, etc. for the summer. Please fix the broken and bare URLs in our cite tags, and clean up the casualty table and place it at the bottom. Keep the see also section in a separate section, and remove any irrelavent links while maintaining a surplus of useful links. Please do not simply copy the list from article to article, as this creates for example links to past northern hemisphere winters in articles about northern hemisphere summers and southern winters. Introductions equivalent to "snow is weather" should be kept to a minimum, while a summary of the major storms should be provided once the article is in better shape. Red links, meanwhile, should be changed to more direct links or removed where void. Do not overlink to articles such as "snow" and names of non-notable people, and avoid potentially misleading language. To-do lists on individual articles may also help, but only when there is little risk that they will be moved or split further. Include any relevant images of the actual storms to the side. Problem post deletion[edit]

The main problem with the article is that it doesn't quantify anything. "Storm activity" should not include droughts or heat waves. In addition, the first sentence says it includes "major" meteorological events, and yet there is so much trivia in there that it's hard to tell what is important or not.

  • A major dust storm hits New Dehli, India, on May 6, 2010
    • The source says nothing about the dust storm being major
  • On May 27, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service forecast a "below normal" rating for hurricane season in the Eastern Pacific in 2010. The season runs from May 15 to May 30, and the eastern Pacific usually has about 15 storms, according to the American agency.
    • How is that "activity"?
  • On May 30, light thunder storms hit parts of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire as temperatures begin to rise in Southern England and Greater London.
    • How is that major?

The article often re-mentions previous storms, often with much redundant information. For example, the coverage on Tropical Storm Agatha (2010) is mentioned in five paragraphs. The biggest problem is that by saying "major" in the lede, there is no way to quantify that, since it's extremely subjective. What's major in the United States (a flood killing 20 people in a major city) would not be major in a poorly-developed country, for the very reason that identical storms would cause much less damage in a better developed country (due to proper flood controls, whatnot). There are very few record storms mentioned here that I can see, which would be a useful quantifier ("List of weather records (2010)" being a plausible title). It honestly seems like majority of the article is in violation of WP:NOTNEWS, and so much of what is included is simply a recap of that week's severe weather. This is a good example of that.

Articles recombined[edit]

In case you guys didn't know, the third article was deleted and never re-created. Due to the fact that the articles aren't as long as a couple of major articles I have visited, and the fact that a single article makes all of the information much easier to locate for readers and editors alike, I have recombined all of the articles and their respective talk pages into a single article.
