Year of birth[edit]

Per this edit, I agree that it's unlikely(!) that this person was 12 years old when they competed at the Olympics. As a result, I've simply removed the DOB, until it can be confirmed. Any help with this would be most welcome. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:31, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

He was a coxswain. They are sometimes very young. I agree that 12 years is extremely young but I would not rule it out that his DOB is correct. And it says that Manfred Grieshofer (born 1945), who was sitting in the same boat, was his uncle. Schwede66 10:25, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wallechinsky's Book of Olympic Lists puts Grieshofer at the 9th-youngest Summer Olympics competitor at 12 years 187 days. (As Schwede66 notes, it was not unusual for coxswains to be quite young. 13-year-olds won gold medals in 1928 and 1960, not to mention the unknown-aged 1896 winner. No longer so common to see very young coxswains due to the minimum-weight rules.) -- Jonel (Speak to me) 11:03, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh that makes more sense, seeing that he was the coxswain and not a rower. Thanks! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:06, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
