Pterodactyl VIII

The Pterodactyl VIII was a proposed transatlantic airliner (and not the Canadian NRC tailless glider as some claim). Web rumours of this airliner have it as a proposal by Short Brothers having a typical Pterodactyl wing, and an artist's impression is bandied about. OTOH, one of Hill's assistants at Westland, H.A. Mettam, recalls in Flight that it may have been a delta although its lifetime was so brief he can hardly remember, and he makes no mention of Short Bros. Was Mettam mistaken? Was there ever a Short Bros. proposal and if so, was it the same Mk VIII or a different type? Or is the Internet pehaps confusing it with the Short SB.1/SB.4 aeroisoclinic testbed? Front and rear variants

Mettam recalls that the Mks V and VI were paired with rear/front gun turrets respectively, while some Internet sources suggest that the Mks. II and III were. I have placed the idea under the V/VI story for now, as Mettam is the best source I can find. Flying Wing ?

Does this aircraft have any connection with Flying Wing aircraft? Tabletop (talk) 10:28, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Effectively, no. All the Pterodactyl designs have a distinct fuselage, with the possible exception of the VIII. I have been able to verify very little about this proposed craft, even whether it was a Westland or a Shot Bros. project, never mind whether they had decided to give it a fuselage or not.
