Move and expand scope[edit]

I feel like the Chinese presence is more scattered than what we thought it was. Given the Chinese Navy chasing a civilian boat (ABS-CBN News crew) near Ayungin Shoal and Chinese jets flying around Taiwan (with the United States getting involved), should we move this article somewhere else? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:35, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The focal point for the recent diplomatic crisis at least in the context of Sino-Philippine relations is the Whitsun/Julian Felipe Reef. Also as you mentioned China and Taiwan is having their own tensions with Taiwan saying they would shoot down drones of PR China. However the latter isn't really relevant to the Whitsun Reef tension aside from the location (Spratlys) and potential US involvement. Imo I would prefer to keep the limited scope of the article discussing the recent (China Philippine tensions; and brief mentions of Vietnam joining in).Hariboneagle927 (talk) 07:48, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927: Alright, but do you think it's an "incident" though? This seems like a series of multiple events rather than just an incident. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 01:55, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't really find a suitable name for this event. At the time, I consider the event as a prolonged incident which ran for weeks. There seems to be no name given for this aside from similarly vague names such as "Whitsun Reef row", "Whitsun Reef dispute" (a poor name choice; since the dispute date back to the Chinese shipping boat swarming. Its akin to renaming this article as "South China Sea dispute"). Would it be apt if a move request (without any specific title in mind) be opened for this article?Hariboneagle927 (talk) 02:08, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927: I've seen RMs without a specified target name in the past, so I think it's fine. I'm thinking of "2021 Chinese activities at Whitsun Reef" as a potential page title for this one. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 02:32, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Whitsun Reef incidentOther name other than "Whitsun Reef incident" – "Incident" descriptor for the event arguably not accurate since the event could be interpreted as a "series of incidents" rather than an "incident". WP:RS don't seem to have a satisfying unifying name for the incident. (e.g. Whitsun Reef row, Whitsun Reef dispute). Please do note that this is a long standing dispute so any proposal to move this article to "Whitsun Reef row" or "Whitsun Reef dispute" is not satisfactory. There is no more direct confrontation that would warrant the article to moved to "Whitsun Reef standoff" (similar to 2012 Scarborough Shoal standoff). The subject for the event is the diplomatic tensions caused mainly by the mooring of 220 ships in the disputed reef, rather than the dispute itself. Building on your train of thought, would Whitsun Reef incidents (plural) be a better name? For a move request, you need to have a concrete proposal, so I propose you withdraw the request for now. Morgengave (talk) 10:53, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
