Expansion[edit]

When I came to this article, I found that it be be based on some highly derivative sources. Reliance on some of these have produced severely inaccuracies, which I have removed, relying on Brown, King and Remfry, of which I am one of the authors. Status[edit]

I have altered recent edits (which cited no sources):

I have removed the reference to Ellesmere only because I have not seen the source. I note that there is a similar statememt on that page, but it also lacks a citation. I have left the reference to Overton, though that is not supported by the reference now cited.
I was not happy about the reference to Maelor, because this is a Welsh name and particularly to the description as a [[cantref], whereas the evidence points to this being part of of Domesday Book England. If there is evidence of Whittington (and Oswestry) ever being part of Maelor, it should be cited, but I do not believe there is any.
In this area, Offa's Dyke seems to represent the boundary of England in the time of William I, as it probably had since the time of Offa of Mercia. It is thus wrong to use words such as "reverted".
The issue is complicated by those who have sought to build history from 17th century Welsh genealogies, which anachonisticly appear to show that the area was Welsh, when it almost certainly was not. I investigated this issue as part of the research for Brown, King, and Remfrey (of which I am a co-author) and was unable to trace the claims about Tudor Trevor further back than genealogies recorded by Lewis Dwmm. This appears to be a late medieval invention, with little or no historical basis. Peterkingiron (talk) 20:32, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
